Goodradigbee Tracks for Life Mentoring Program is tailored for Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children aged between 5 – 17 years to be involved in a culturally safe mentoring program. The program will run during the school terms and provide positive role models for children and young people to actively engage in various culturally activities as well as life skills and social skills with other peers and community members.
Overview of Cultural Sessions
STRENGTHENING CULTURE
- Learn basic cooking education and skills development
- Learn basic art skills
- Develop a greater understanding and appreciation of culture
- Connect to county and respect Aboriginal LORE
EMOTIONAL WELLBEING
- Provide links with community elder
- Engage to yarn up about emotional wellbeing – self regulation
- Provide links to counselling and mental health resources
- Provide a fun social outlet
HEALTHY LIVING
- Skills and drills through sports and games facilitators
- Have fun
- Discuss advantages to be gained from psychical activity
SAFE DECISION MAKING
- Explore goals
- Gain a greater self-awareness and self-esteem through cultural empowerment
- Skills and mechanisms for coping
